There is something about the smell of fried food and walking around a fairground that makes me feel like a kid again. Matt, Ryah, and I headed to the Sarpy County Fair last Friday. We told Ryah that if she was a "good girl" at Missy's that day, she could ride the ponies at the fair. I guess she was so excited and looking forward to going to the fair that she wouldn't talk about anything else with the kids at daycare.
The first thing we did was tour the barns and look at the animals. Ryah loved all the pigs, horses, cows, and sheep. We usually don't make it to the bunny barn or chicken barn, (cause I hate the smell), but when you have a kid, you can look past a lot. I am glad that we did go inside, cause the reaction from Ryah when she saw the "easter bunny" eating a carrot was priceless. We had fun picking out our favorite rabbit.
Next stop was a few of the rides. I thought I could pull the "pregnancy card" and just sit and watch Matt and Ryah go on the rides. However, Matt decided to pull the infamous line of "I will get sick on the spinning rides, so you are going to have to go." The carousel wasn't too bad- I actually thought it was going a little too fast for kids, but after about the 3rd time on it, I was getting used to it. Next Ryah decided she wanted to ride on the cars. She went on this ride all by herself- and loved it! Up next, the dragon rollercoaster. This was NOT my idea! No adults were allowed to ride with- so that made me extremely nervous. Ryah LOVED it! She would copy the boys in front of her, and scream when they screamed, and put her hands in the air when they did the same. It was kind of cute- but I was too scared to watch (other than to get a picture or two). Pony rides were the next event. Ryah picked out the pony she wanted to ride. After going around a couple of times- she was done. I think she liked going on the faster rides, rather than sitting on the slow moving pony.
After a quick break to grab some dinner, we had a few tickets left. I kept eyeing the ferris wheel, and thought, "what the heck- I can go on that with Ryah." Matt decided to sit and watch us. I will admit- I thought I was going to go into labor on the top, cause I had a death grip on Ryah and was so tense- but tried to act calm about the whole situation for Ryah's sake. Of course, the ferris wheel stopped with us at the top- looking straight down. Ryah was moving a little, which made the cart we were sitting in move, which gave me anxiety! Ryah thought it was so cool that we could "almost touch the sky." It was a great experience- but not my favorite :)
Here are a few pictures from the fair. We will be back next year- and it will be Matt's turn to take her on the rides!
