Ryah had her first doctor appt on Friday July 16. At this appt Dr. Andresen informed us that Ryah's billirubin was elevating, and we needed to keep an eye on it. On Saturday, we returned to the clinic for another blood draw, only to discover that Ryah needed phototherapy for her jaundice. The home health nurse brought the equipment to our house (which was better than sitting in the hospital!). When the nurse mentioned Ryah would have to remain in the unit at all times except for feedings, and that she would have to wear the mask... I lost it! The flood gates opened, and the tears came pouring out! My mom was so encouraging and supportive! I don't think either of us slept for more than a couple hours that night. We were constantly making sure Ryah's eyes were covered and that she was comfortable. THANK YOU MOM!!!
We called it her little tanning bed. She didn't seem to mind it at all.
I thought this was the sweetest moment! Jessie lying next to Ryah, making sure she is alright!
It all paid off in the end... only 22 hours of light therapy, and her billirubin started to decline!
Side note: Matt would kill me if he knew I was posting this... (but it is too funny not too). So, being the caring dad that he is, he thought all this light therapy was to help her umbilical cord fall off. (don't ask me where he came up with this, but he was sure getting concerned when it was still attached at the end of the treatment!) Bless his heart!
